Kumu did a post on the blog!!

Rikki is taking a career break from blog writing so I have had to step in. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Its my first blog post and be warned it’s mainly about food ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ—๐ŸŒญ๐ŸŒฎ.

We arrived in Rio de Janeiro yesterday morning and are staying in Botafago. There aren’t many tourist here. It has been a really nice two days of hanging out and watching the locals go about their day. Very lively atmosphere any day / night of the week!

Yesterday I was already craving some spice in my food and also some rice!! It’s only day 3 – surely not! Rikki is starting to think I’m a high maintenance traveller haha, but look at this photo – definitely not high maintenance right??

We randomly then found a food stall selling these snacks called Acaraje (pronounced a-ka-ra-zjeh) which hit the spot. It is a deep fried patty of crushed black eyed peas, palm oil and pureed onions, deep fried and then sliced open and stuffed with fried shrimp and vatapa (a rich and spicy puree of prawns, bread, cashew nuts and other edible items ๐Ÿค”). It was delicious!! Rikki tried it and found it spicy..oh shame! More for me ๐Ÿ˜

Today we went to a viewpoint, Mirante Dona Marta which was amazing as you can see the Sugar Loaf mountain, Christ the Redeemer, Copacabana, favelas – basically a well rounded view of Rio! There was a lot of fog when we got up there so we couldn’t catch a glimpse of Christ the redeemer. However three hours later and after being rained on twice he definitely redeemed the day (as you can see below).

We then headed to Santa Teresa (historical town of Rio) before walking down the famous tiled steps (Escadaria selaron) and the Lapa arches. We didn’t fancy the Lapa area too much but headed to a bar to get out of the sun only to have the strongest Caprinha! ๐Ÿธ

In the afternoon we headed to the famous Sugar loaf mountain also for some amazing views of Rio and to watch the sunset.

Tonight’s dinner consisted of bbq pork, hamburger and a hot dog from a street vendor. My hot dog had some weird toppings which included a whole quails egg, olives, green peas, sweet corn and my favourite crispy fried potatoes!

Feeling content we have our next couple of days planned out, we will be having an early one tonight! I’m trying to get used to not being on the go all the time whilst travelling! Usually when travelling I like to see and do a lot of things but since we will be travelling for a long period of time I need to be a bit more relaxed or we will be very burnt out early on in this amazing trip!

Obrigado pela leitura e boa noite. Thank you for reading and good night!

P.s. if you didn’t enjoy reading that, don’t unsubscribe, Rikki will be back soon….
